Dammtor Station

I purchased the Trix Dammtor station kit for our layout
It is a huge kit

Here is the base construction

Building the walls

Entrance detail

The floor would not fit so I had to do some deconstruction

Going back together

I did not like the glued on paper clocks, so I purchased two Model Power lighted street lamps
I took them apart and installed them on the station

One end wall is just about finished.  Still a little touching up to do:

After much thought about how to incorporate the catenary in the station, I decided on this solution. I drilled a #63 hole (.037 inch or .94mm) in the roof supports and ran a support wire through it. I attached the Viessmann catenary hangars but cut off the upper parts since I am only going to have a single wire without the messenger wire running through the station. I think it will work out well.

The roof structure of the station is done.  Just need to add the roof panels

My next project is to build lights for it. I am constructing six light assemblies (three for each platform) each using three Viessmann 63652 LED Bahnsteigleuchte assembled on a Plastruct 90043 channel. I drilled a small hole in the channel and passed the wires through (after cutting off the resistor and diode).

Then I soldered the three lights in series. I then pulled the feed wires at the end of the strings through another channel and glued that one on the back of the other to create a closed structure.

After installed in the station, I will add one diode and one 1k resistor to each light assembly. Should provide sufficient lighting.

The exterior of the station is complete. I am not going to do the platforms nor lights until I have placed the tracks so that I get the correct spacing. It is now going on the top shelf for storage until my expansion is ready for it.

Started creating the room for the Dammtor extension of the layout
Below are a few construction pictures

I decided to try my hand at hand painting the backdrop for this expansion
I think it came out pretty well

The pieces of masonite will be placed above the bench work to hide the pipe.
It will be painted the same way as the wall.

I have added some snowy peaks to the mountains.
Also, all of Phase 1A bench work is done

Got the first tracks from the Bietschtal area coming up into the Hamburg/Dammtor area

I have installed a temporary turn around in the Dammtor area until I get room to extend the bench work

Started the extension of the bench work for the station and it's environs

Decided that our control station was too tight with the expanded bench work so I moved it to the north end of the Bonn station

Been busy doing bench work for the expansion.  Here is the current state.

Completed the bench work for the Dammtor freight yard.
Just waiting now for roadbed and track.

Looking from the other side

Note that the station is FINALLY out from under the bench work waiting installation.

I have finished the tracks leading to the Dammtor freight yard.  The middle temporary structure is now gone
Note the wooden wall on the left side of the tracks to protect from floor incidents.

Here is the freight yard from the "west" end
I am considering redoing the switches into the yard and moving them back around the curve to make the sidings longer

Here is the freight yard from the other end

Well, the "focal point" of the expansion has finally made it onto the layout
Just have to run the tracks to it now.

Here is my Rheingold coming out of the Dammtor station

The temporary structure is finally gone!

Catenary is up in the station and it is partially populated!

Some cars going through the underpass at the end of the station

The BLS coming down from the Bietschtal bridge

The BLS is in the station

Town taking shape

More views of the town

The town government plaza

A view at night

Station back view

Dammtor yard

I added a parking lot at the north end of the station

Had had a corner of this portion I did not know what to do with.
I had an extra station and cottage so I created a whistlestop "An der Ecke" (On the Corner)

The road behind the station goes into a tunnel past the cottage

Night scene of 'An Die Ecke'

Dammtor station now has street lights

Added scenery to the lower Dammtor routes

The one end of the station is now ballasted and landscaped
